energy

A little heads up about this post...it's not the usual "family happenings and updates" that I often do. It's about what's been on my mind with the coming of the new year. I wanted to journal my thoughts, experiences, and goals. Read on, if you're interested, and certainly leave your thoughts if you feel so inclined!

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of energy. I find it most interesting that it can never be created, nor destroyed, it only changes form. Light, movement, heat. When energy is transferred, a change occurs.

The actual definition of energy is the capacity of a physical system to do work, or in other words, the ability to make something happen.
We all need physical energy to live, to perform our daily tasks. We get this energy from the food we eat, and ultimately from sunlight.

Have you ever noticed the “energy” of a particular place? Or even the energy of a certain person? What IS that? What makes it good or bad? In some cases you walk away feeling energized and other times, you can feel drained of energy. I'm wondering about this energy of the spirit, the soul, or the subtle body as it is sometimes referred to. How is it different from physical energy, or is it?

How can we influence this type energy in our lives? How much control do we really have? These are the things I have been contemplating lately. It has been quite life-changing, to be honest, and I feel my journey of learning and discovery is just beginning! I want to learn more about how to transfer energy to incite changes in my life.

Jon has an old cassette tape, probably 25 years old, that his father gave to him when he was a boy. He has listened to it off and on throughout his life. It is called “Positively Change Your Life” and it teaches the principles of positive affirmations, the law of attraction, and visualizations in creating the life you want for yourself. It walks you through a relaxation and meditation process then recites several positive affirmations. I have been listening to it consistently for a few weeks now and I’m really enjoying it. I can say that I FEEL different. I am happier and better able to handle the stress that life brings. I have a clearer picture of my intentions, goals, and dreams and that makes it easier to make decisions. (That is NOT to say I have perfected it. Jon would be snickering with raised eyebrows about now.)

Could thoughts actually be currents of energy that we are transferring from our minds into the universe? And if so, the belief is that we will attract similar currents back into our lives. Isn't that really the process of PRAYER?
I believe that God created the universe and the laws that govern it. He also gave us the gift of agency, the power to act for ourselves, not just be acted upon. We are here to use our energy to make the very best of our lives, and bless the lives of others.

I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to attend a vision collage workshop. My friend Katrina guided us through a meditation then led us in the process of creating a vision collage. We focused not only on specific items that we would like to bring into our lives, but also on the feelings that the images evoked in us. Or, the ENERGY that the pictures held, that we would like to invite more of into our lives. Here is how mine turned out:

I was pleasantly surprised at the way it came together. It was not what I thought I would end up with!

I believe that acknowledging results, no matter how small, will continue the momentum and bring about more realizations. It’s the basic concept of gratitude! So, let me share one thing that I have already noticed!
I was really drawn to the green mirror window so I cut it out and put it in the collage. I won't go into details now about why but I'll just say that I wanted something similar in my house so I looked on ksl and found an old barn window for sale for $10! It was in a city about 45 minutes away. I told Jon about it and to my astonishment he was about to drive there for business! Yay! The window is now in my garage awaiting paint.

After all this time I’ve spent thinking and pondering I realized that my house, although very comfortable and functional for my lifestyle, doesn’t really reflect me. I decided to start small and create a little space for me that, when I am in it, I see and feel myself reflected back. Not me the mom, or me the cook, the maid, or the other functions I perform; but me the person. The energy of my thoughts and feelings, hopes and desires. I often get out of touch with myself in the rush of life. I decided to call this room my greenhouse, and I am attempting to create the optimal conditions for my personal growth.
It will be a place where I can think, study, read, meditate, relax, escape, and renew.

Topics I want to learn more about:
Chakras
Light, particularly in terms of the gospel
Auras
Meditation

I'm excited to see what the coming year will bring.
